What does EV charging at a company site cost in Germany? (2026)

In short
- A business AC wallbox (11 or 22 kW, OCPP, Eichrecht) costs roughly €550 to €1,300 net in German shops in October 2026; a two-point AC column about €5,300 to €7,500 net.
- Installation is usually the bigger part: about €1,100 to €3,200 per AC charge point for businesses, more with long cables, trenching or a new distribution board.
- All in, budget about €3,200 to €6,400 per AC charge point. One provider’s example puts 10 AC points at about €40,000 investment.
- A 50 kW DC charger costs about €15,000 to €30,000 for the hardware alone, and DC sites often need grid work or a transformer.
- Running costs: software from about €10 per charge point per month, maintenance, and a meter re-calibration every eight years.
- A bigger grid connection can add a construction cost contribution (Baukostenzuschuss) and months of lead time. Load management often avoids it.
Charging for a company fleet has four cost blocks: the chargers, the installation, the grid connection and the running costs. The figures below come from German shop prices, grid operators’ 2026 price sheets and published examples, read on 31 October 2026. They are net of VAT. Your own quote depends mostly on how far the chargers are from the distribution board and how much spare capacity your connection has.
Charger hardware
| Type | Typical net price | Example |
|---|---|---|
| AC wallbox 22 kW with MID meter | about €550 | Autel MaxiCharger, sale price |
| AC wallbox 11 kW, Eichrecht, OCPP 1.6 | about €920 | KEBA P40 company car version |
| AC wallbox 22 kW, Eichrecht, OCPP | about €710 to €1,260 | Easee Charge Max (sale), KEBA P40 Pro |
| AC wallbox, two points of 22 kW, Eichrecht | about €3,650 to €4,030 | Alfen Eve Double Plus |
| AC charging column, two points of 22 kW, Eichrecht | about €5,300 to €7,450 | Compleo DUO, Mennekes AMEDIO Professional, ABL eMC3 |
| DC charger about 50 kW | about €14,600 to €30,000 | Alpitronic HYC50 about €14,600; Virta gives €15,000 to €30,000 |
| DC charger 150 kW | about €30,000 to €40,000 | Virta, rule of thumb €200 to €400 per kW |
Eichrecht (German calibration law) matters if you bill drivers, guests or customers per kWh. For charging your own vehicles only, a wallbox with a MID meter is often enough. For load management, the charger must accept charging profiles over OCPP.
Installation
Installation is usually the larger cost per charge point. One provider’s 2026 budget guide puts installation at €1,100 to €3,200 per AC charge point for businesses, and €21,000 to €64,000 per DC point. ADAC’s tiers for wallboxes show what drives the price:
| Effort | Typical cost | Situation |
|---|---|---|
| Low | €500 to €800 | Cable under 5 m |
| Medium | €800 to €1,500 | Cable 10 to 20 m, wall openings, residual current device added |
| High | €1,500 to €3,000 and more | New meter cabinet, trenching or paving, cable over 30 m |
- Distance to the distribution board, and whether cables cross a car park.
- Whether the board has room, or a new sub-distribution is needed.
- Ground work: trenches, foundations for columns, resurfacing, bollards and line marking.
- Planning for the final number of chargers: laying ducts once for later phases is cheaper than opening the ground twice.
Grid connection
If the spare capacity of your connection is not enough, the grid operator charges for a bigger one. Part of that is the construction cost contribution (Baukostenzuschuss, BKZ), published per kW or kVA in each operator’s price sheet. Examples valid from 1 January 2026:
| Grid operator | Low voltage | Medium voltage network | Transformation medium to low |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netze BW | €30 per kW above 30 kW | €172.74 per kW | €167.67 per kW |
| EAM Netz | €69.36 per kVA above 30 kW | €164.66 per kVA | €141.98 per kVA |
| Energienetze Mittelrhein | €50 per kVA | €125.50 per kVA | €116.10 per kVA |
Time is often the bigger problem than money. A new or bigger medium-voltage connection takes 12 to 24 months according to installers, with transformer delivery of 40 to 50 weeks after approval. A dena study on truck depots reports up to two and a half years for the connection. Chargers must be notified to the grid operator before commissioning, and above 12 kVA in total the operator has to consent (§19 NAV).
That is why load management is usually checked first: it shares the spare capacity you already have between chargers, so the vehicles still leave full and the upgrade can wait or be smaller. Our grid check gives a first answer for your site.
Running costs
- Charging software: published prices start at about €10 per charge point per month, plus a SIM if the charger has no network cable. See our overview of charging software costs.
- Maintenance: one provider estimates €150 to €1,000 per commercial AC charge point per year, and €1,500 to €3,000 for a 50 kW DC charger.
- Calibration: meters in charge points are valid for eight years (MessEV), after which they must be re-calibrated or replaced.
- Electricity: the price per kWh, grid fees and, on many business sites, a demand charge for the highest peak of the year.
Worked example: 10 AC charge points
| Cost line | Range for 10 points | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Wallboxes, 11 to 22 kW with OCPP | about €7,000 to €13,000 | Shop prices above |
| Installation | about €11,000 to €32,000 | €1,100 to €3,200 per point |
| Grid connection | €0 if capacity is enough | Otherwise BKZ and connection works |
| Software per year | about €1,770 to €2,330 | €10.25 to €14.90 plus €4.50 SIM per point per month |
| Maintenance per year | about €1,500 to €10,000 | €150 to €1,000 per point |
How much does a charging point at a company car park cost in Germany?
For an AC charge point, expect roughly €3,200 to €6,400 net including hardware and installation in 2026. The hardware alone is about €550 to €1,300 per wallbox; installation, cabling and ground work make up the rest.
What does a DC fast charger for a depot cost?
About €15,000 to €30,000 for a 50 kW unit and €30,000 to €40,000 for 150 kW, hardware only. Installation and grid work often cost as much again or more.
Do we need permission from the grid operator?
Chargers must be notified to the grid operator before they go into operation. If the total power of all chargers on the connection is above 12 kVA, the operator has to consent first, and it must answer within two months (§19 NAV).
How can we avoid a grid connection upgrade?
With load management, chargers share the spare capacity of the existing connection, and charging moves to hours when the site uses less. Check first how much energy your vehicles need overnight and how much capacity is left.
